Just wanted to say thanks for all the responses. I have discovered that the guy I was investigating was a fraud. He was actually a desk clerk for the army and his discharge papers say he left as a Private! He never did anything with the Rangers! When confronted with the truth, he turned tail and ran! What a jerk!!! Thanks again!

I am totally confused about my father's WWII service and I am looking for help. Here is what I KNOW. My father joined the Army at 16 (discharge papers say 695th Port Co.). Then, I have a large group photo labeled Company A, 35th Infantry, Scofield Barracks, Pearl Harbor. I know my father was at Pearl Harbor. THEN, I KNOW my father was a Ranger in the 4th Battalion, was at Sicily, Rome Arno, Cisterna, Rhineland I think. THEN, I know my father was in the First Special Service Force. I am trying to understand the correlation with 695th Port Company, then the A Company 35th Infanty and then the time between Pearl Harbor and Sicily. Was he in 35th Inf. and then became a ranger or how that went. I have written for his records, they were destroyed. I KNOW (they are sending me his medals) he got a Bronze Star, I don't know where, a combat infantryman badge (I don't know where) and he was discharged after being in the First Special Service Force. If anyone can help me I would be most appreciative. Thank you. Jean LaCoss

Hi, my names Nicholas Vogt, and I hope I'm not intruding or anything. I'm a high school senior who is trying to get into West Point and I was hoping someone out there could help me out. I have a good chance of getting in except for one small problem, my asthma. It hasn't affected me for years and I'm a fairly accomplished cross country runner, but you know how by-the-book the Army can be.
I read the book "Black Hawk Down" a few years back, though, and I remembered that one of the Rangers involved in the operation had asthma, a soldier by the name of Spec. Steve Anderson (rank as of 1993). If anyone can help me contact him or has anything that could help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your help and your service to our nation.

Hello nice to see this kind of a sight and I appreciate that there are people that are Rangers and those that support what Rangers do. I only wish that some people would understand that in some instances that even though we have been labeled at times as cold hearted killers in history that we as human beings as well would understand that in times of crisis or periods of much needed action we are not always given the comfort of careful thought. I know that those that are Rangers or have been Rangers would all agree and that in hopes of anyone seeing this post would someday come up to a Ranger, and shake a hand, or give a hug and ask, what is it like really.

I am looking for a man my husband served with in Korea in 1996. His name is Steven Taylor and I believe he was a sergeant in the 82nd at the time. He saved my husbands life numerous times. I later heard that Sgt. Taylor had joined the rangers. My husband was declared 4-E after a nasty jump back in the states and lost touch with Taylor. Our eight month old son is named after him and my husband is not doing very well. I would very much appreciate any help anyone could give me in regards to getting in touch with Sgt. Taylor.

Sir,
As a DIE HARD member of the Sons and Daughters of Rangers Batallion Association of World War II, I would like to say you have a lot of stuff on NON Rangers on your web page that looks shall I say kinda tacky.
I come from Iowa one of the two main states where the biggest percentage of DARBYS Rangers came from, the other being the neighboring state of Minnesota. My late uncle was Dean Alvin Knudson (O-391248) 1st Lt. Cmd. of 1st Platoon Company B Darbys Rangers 1st Btl. WWII who was in the Attack on Fort de la Point Arzew North Africa at 1:30 A. M. Nov. 16, 1942 and was later promoted to Major. Dean later was one of the three main Instructors of the 2nd Ranger Batallion at Fort Benning, GA.
I'm a 59 year old Vietnam veteran who served in the U. S. Navy in country with Special Security Forces. I'm also the VFW 5th District Dept. of Iowa Commander for 2003-2004 and a Life member of AMVETS, DAV, PVA Associates, and a member of The American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America, Iowa Veterans Council and last but not least I'm the Governor appointed Chairman of The Iowa Battle Flag Preservation and Advisory Committies to Save the Original Civil War, Spanish American War, WWI and WWII Battles Flags of the Great State of Iowa.
I'm glad that you served in the Rangers, and did your duty to help protect our freedoms, but make your web site about Rangers not movie stars and not other junk. If you wish to verify my information click on United States Army Ranger Association and go to the S&D site and look up Dean Alvin Knudson. I'm listed on their site under his name and pictures which I've sent them of him.
Thanks.

I graduated from Ranger School in 1995. John Agnew was one of my classmates, he was with 2nd BN out of Lewis. I have been trying to reconnect with him but have been unable to locate him for security reasons. If anyone knows him or a means by which I may be able to reach him, I'd really appreciate your help.

My father Wilton White was with the 6th rangers that participated in the Cabanatuan Raid. John Cook, a former POW has a list of the individuals that participated. This list is incomplete as there are other Rangers from the 6th Rangers that participated in this raid and their names are not on the list either. My father was inducted into the Ranger Hall of Fame in 1998. When Cook presented his list of participants with my fathers name omitted, the Ranger Hall of Fame REMOVED my father. What an injustice that has been done. My father states that he was there and knows WAY too many details not to have been. He's a true Ranger to this day and believes very STRONGLY in the Ranger Creed.
Can anyone please help me? I would like to have my father put back into the Hall of Fame. Dad has terminal cancer and isn't expected to be with us much longer. Thanks to ANYONE that can vouch for or has info regarding this matter. Nat. Personnel have no record as they were burned in a fire. Where did Cook come up with this list? Is it in fact incomplete?

Can Someone helpme get a peice of mind? I went through ranger school in Oct 88, my ranger buddy in the beginning was Ranger Weems of Regimental Recon, I got peered out by West point Cadets in Feb 89 by West Poin Cadets after I got recycled in Fl.
Anyway, there was a Ranger in my class that was Killed during operation just cause. From what I heard if he died he was going to die for his country. The only thing I remember is that he raided Noriega's palace, I'm assuming he was one of the first one through the door.
I was only 21 years old in Ranger School, I wasn't much older when just Cause kicked off. I ended up blocking it from my memory. I would like to pay him the respect he deserves on Monday. If No One knows his name can you please point me in the direction to find his name?
I will know it as soon as I see or Hear it.
Thanks.

June 01, 2001
Dear Sir My name is Chris Simonds and this letter is kind of hard to write for me... My grandfather who raised me since birth, passed away five years ago. I would really appreciate any response anyone would have. My father's name was Russell W. Simonds. And from what I have been told by him and family closest to him he was inducted into the Army on 29 Feb 1944 at Ft Benjamin Harrison Indiana as a Private in Co F. 134 Inf. (not sure of Division) Poss. 35th and later possibly to a base in Texas, this is where he obtained Rifleman 745 & M-1 Rifle sharpshooter status among other various qualifications, according to his discharge paperwork. (What is rifleman 745?) Before D-Day he went into the 2 ND Ranger Bn and was at Pointe du Hoc, Nancy, St-Lo and so on until he was shot up pretty bad in the leg by a machine gun nest on 29 Sept 1944. He would never talk to me much about his experiences in the war until almost at the end of his life but by this time it was too late to get much information because he had severe lung problems and had a hard time breathing and it was still like he hated to think about the days of WWII. The only reason I know about him being in the Rangers is a news paper article I found after his death that stated "Local man goes into Rangers" After he was wounded he was transported via hospital ship to England and later to Darnell General Hospital in Kentucky and released on 10 Feb 1945. I have other info and numbers if you need them and would REALLY BE GRATEFULL FOR ANY CORRISPONDENCE in this matter. I again just want you to know how much I appreciate your response to me! I have been looking on the web for many years and you are the first positive lead that I have had. THANKS A LOT Chris M Simonds simondsperf@juno.com

I hope everyone made it through Memorial day fine, I spent the day with family and friends remembering those Rangers that paid the ultimate price for freedom. I served in the Army for 13 years as an Airborne Ranger and never regretted a moment, well maybe in the Florida Phase on Day 10, waist deep in water, hungry and no sleep for 3 to 4 days. But even that, showed me what I was made of. My hat is off to you younger guys still carrying the flame in your hearts. As an engineer I've always admired the Ranger way and the professionalism that was always displayed by these elite soldiers. I truely feel the average joe donning the black beret will be a slap in the face of every Ranger who has sacrifed for the tab. As an NCO I feel that you warriors are the last saving grace for the new generation of soldiers. They do not understand what it means to be a soldier and your long, proud history is all that is left that can make the difference. Continue to LEAD THE WAY! ESSAYONS! HOOAH!

Prez Bush says that it may not be a good Idea to let all of the chaff in the Army wear our hard earned beanie. Bush asked the Army to look again. I think that is a good thing.

I am looking for any petition to sign to stop the implementation of the issuing of the black beret to all troops. The black beret has long been a symbol of the U.S. Army Rangers. I feel as if all that hard work, blood sweat and sacrifice that all the Rangers put into erning that beret has gone for not. Please feel free to email me so we can bond together and prevent this disaster from happening.
Yours Always,

I was in 2/75 B.Co. 3rd Plt. from 1991
to 1996. I was wondering what happened
anyone from that time frame. Some of the
people that I remember, Curtis Foster,
Bill Lockler, Ned Lungoria, "Stony" Fulton
"Pappy" Wismer, Rob Proctor, Rick Bielfield,
Tyson Larimore, John Jolly, Mike Kalian,
Jessy Thorp, Chirs "Tippy" King,
"Jeffery" Lapp,
It has been a while but let it be known
"Rangers Lean The Way" 3rd Herd
Rember the Platoon tatoo, a black spade,
red lightning bolt, the star and sun,
and the two blue hash marks.
If anyone knows any of these people and
how to contact them it will be appreciated.

I've heard a vague rumor that an, at the time a highly classified, NATO operation "Safety Blitz" occured roughly around the time of Desert Storm or Shield in which nuclear weapons were secured at a terrorist camp which were assumingly headed for the United States. From what I've heard the operation was a complete sucess with no casualties (my source comes from a single point of view-information is likely somewhat innacurate). If anyone has solid information as to if this operation if it existed is classifed or declasified I would appreaciate feedback you can reach me at "jlaird@sprintmail.com". Thanks in advance. Excellent website.
